Clementi

Clementi Offers Affluent, Multi-Cultural, Multi-Generational Living

Clementi, named for the Governor of the Straits Settlement leader Sir Cecil Clementi Smith, was partially a swampland that included villages with squatter-kinds of homes, cottage industries, farms and backyard trades. It had a modest beginning but has become one of Singapore's most prominent and established estates.

Clementi was one of the first HDB estates to be developed, taking place throughout the 1970s. Today, it's a self-sufficient town with a plethora of services, facilities and activities that are sure to bring more visitors in and encourage many to move to it. It has plenty of job opportunities that will entice people to move here.

Clementi's Residential Life

Clementi Mall was the first HDB development, which includes public housing, commercial facilities and the bus interchange. The 80,000+ residents that live in this region can conveniently shop and eat without going far out of their way.

And, it's not just the matter of conveniences that make Clementi so popular to investors. It's also got cheap land values, and there is a big redevelopment in the works. The region has been broken into nine subzones that have helped it to become a lucrative residential estate.

Throughout Clementi is housing of all types, which gives residents options to choose from. For example, there are the Botannia, Park West and The Parc condos, along with public housing around Clementi Woods Park and private housing around Sungei Ulu Pandan.

With families moving into the region, parents need a place for their children to go for studies. Clementi offers a number of different schools – from early education to higher education. These schools include but are not limited to:

  • Primary Schools – Clementi Primary School, Nan Hua Primary School and The Japanese School
  • Secondary Schools – Clementi Town Secondary School, Clementi Woods Secondary School, Nan Hua High School and Tanglin Secondary School
  • Higher Education Schools – National University of Singapore (NUS), Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Institute of Management (SIM)

Clementi's elementary campus for The Canadian International School is often full of area children to get international education and training.

Why Clementi Is A Tourist Attraction

Clementi is regarded as a tourist attraction thanks to its many architecturally fascinating landmarks, Buddhist temples and mosques. Christians often frequent the Clementi Bible Center, but there is also the Ang Chee Sia Ong Temple and Darussalam Mosque, to name a few. Clementi is an amalgamation of many religions that make up Singapore's cultural and traditional legacy.

Clementi's healthcare facilities are highly-advanced, including the Lim Medical Clinic and Clementi Polyclinic, with 24-hour medical help whenever needed.

No matter where the residents have or want to go, Clementi offers residents transportation in the form of the rails and road with its bus service and taxis.

Fun and Entertainment In Clementi

There are so many things about Clementi that make it such a great place to live. The HDB estate provides an array of restaurants to eat at, as well as shopping centers, video game parlors, pool centers, clubs and more. There are so many things to see and do; the possibilities are endless.

For shopping, there are two malls that people can frequent – The Clementi Mall and the 321 Clementi. Both of their pros and cons, but they do offer many things for residents to enjoy and have fun. For instance, The Clementi Mall includes a supermarket, the Clementi Public Library, a bookstore and numerous other stores that will meet residents' basic needs.

What it does not have that 321 Clementi does have is a movie theater called WE Cinemas by Eng Wah. It's the only cinema in Clementi other than the EagleWings Cinematics located at the King Albert Park Mall. It's not as big as The Clementi Mall, but it offers many different things such as a gym and clinics.

You also have your choice of the IMM Building and West Coast Plaza to shop in.

Clementi is home to an array of restaurants to choose from. The development of Block 448 Clementi Food Center has ensured the satisfaction to all who have ventured inside. It's got many vendors that make it difficult to settle on a particular food.  One such restaurant is the Collins with its crispy white pizza and truffle mushroom soup. You can also try the Jinija Chicken and Shake Shake In A Tub restaurants, depending on what is tickling your palette.

At the 321 Clementi is Prata Alley, which serves off-the-wall meals never yet experienced like the salted caramel apple prata.

Other places to try include Kopitiam, Niqqi's Cheese Prata and Fong Seng Nasi Lemak.

Good Downtimes In Clementi

For fitness buffs and workout enthusiasts, Clementi offers two globally-known name gyms – Anytime Fitness and Fitness First. Clementi also offers a regional gym known as ActiveSG. With several gyms available, getting healthier has become much easier to do.

On top of that, Clementi includes several residential parks that allow people to be active on sunny days (and rainy ones too if they want).  These parks can also allow for a relaxing day if fitness isn't what you're in the mood for. Visit NParks' Clementi Woods Park, Firefly Park, Sunset Way Park, or West Coast Park. Some of the parks include fishing spots, playgrounds and barbecue pits to cook out on.

When it comes to community centers and clubs, you can check out the Clementi Town Center, West Coast Community Center and West Coast Recreation Center.

Clementi is a town full of convenience and continues to expand every year. It's definitely become the place to live, especially for wealthier individuals.

Interesting Tidbits About Clementi

  • British armed forces and squatters once occupied Clementi New Town for years before the land was fully developed.

HDB resale flat prices in Clementi are in the upper mid-range for a mature estate, with a 4-room unit costing about $500,000. But this is a well-connected estate in a good location with plenty of upscale amenities and planned enhancements, so these flats are well worth the price.

If you look at a draft of the 2019 URA master plan for Clementi, you will notice that additional green belts are planned along Sungei Pandan Kechil and Sungel Ulu Pandan. West Coast Park will have more facilities for senior citizens. Additional homes and other upgrades are also planned for Clementi.
