Bukit Panjang

You Can Enjoy The Quiet Life In Bukit Panjang

Bukit Panjang in Malay means long stretches of hills, and that’s for a very good reason. The area is enveloped with an abundance of greenery.  It was initially an area inhabited by villages and kampungs, but today, it’s a self-contained locale with many residential estates.

It’s a quiet town that is home to 100,000 people, with about four to five-room flats and condos and a mix of new and old apartments. However, the number of residences being built continues to grow and will continue to do so around the LRT and MRT stations. The area is broken down into subzones – Bangkit, Bukit Panjang, Dairy Farm, Fajar, Nature Reserve, Senja and Sujana

It’s not been a fast development of this area. Instead, the Bukit Panjang HDB estates have slowly but surely seen an increase in residences and modernizations and amenities. As such, it’s regarded as a must-live place in Singapore thanks to its comfortable and peaceful environment.

The Quiet Look and Lifestyle Of Bukit Panjang

Along with the estates, there are several private developments to choose from. People who want a condo can choose between the newer Eco-Sanctuary and the older Cashew Park or Maysprings. Each option has its positives and negatives, but whatever you decide should be based on your needs and desires.

No matter your home preference, Bukit Panjang offers families with children primary, secondary and higher education schools to attend, all within a reasonable distance of the Bukit Panjang HDB estates. Some of the schools in this area include:

  • Primary Schools – Beacon Primary School, Greenridge Primary School, Zhenghua Primary School
  • Secondary Schools – Greenridge Secondary School, West Spring Secondary School and Zhenghua Secondary School
  • University Schools – Assumption Vocational Institute, Boy’s Town Singapore and SHATEC Institute

You can further your learning by visiting the Bukit Panjang Community Library.

When it comes time to worship, families have the Cheng Hwa Cher Siah Temple, Church of Saint Joseph and Masjid Al-Iman

Despite its quiet atmosphere, there is still much to see, do and enjoy in the area. This urban lifestyle includes clubs, restaurants, malls, entertainment centers, parks and recreational centers. Shopping is typically done at the Bukit Panjang Plaza or Greenridge Shopping Center.

In 2016, the Bukit Panjang Hawker Center was opened. Unlike other hawker centers, it’s considered trendier and more stylish, but the food defines the hawker environment. Some of the foods recommended at this hawker center are the Ngoh Hiang, Lor Mee, Dim Sum and Ban Mian

Bukit Panjang is also home to another hawker center called Kim Sam Leng Food Center, which is famous for its noodles at the Million Fishball and seafood meals at the Lian Soon Huat Live Seafood “restaurants.”

Of course, for those who food beyond the hawker centers – something more formal – Bukit Panjang offers plenty of restaurants to try – Bukit Panjang, Jack’s Place, Genki Sushi and Kopitiam often satisfy the palate.

When it’s time to put down the books, get out of the church and spend some quality time with yourself, your family or friends, the community offers many places to enjoy. For instance, you can spend time learning out to golf at the Warren Country and Golf Club or take up other sports at the Bukit Panjang and Zhenghua Community Centers. Walk the park at either Bukit Panjang Park or Zhenghua Park.

Take in a movie at the Eng-Wah West Mall Cinema Hall.

Scenic Places To Check Out

Zhenghua Nature Park is one of the most popular places in Bukit Timah, giving residents an opportunity to bike ride or walk. It stretches about 2.5km along BKE, connecting the town of Bukit Panjang to the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.

The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is located in this area of Singapore and where the country’s native fauna and flora can be seen. In the east is a mostly forested, hilly area called the Central Water Catchment.

Residents can get from their residences to other places in the town by way of railway and roadway transportation. For instance, the Bukit Panjang LRT (Light Rapid Transit) is a completely automated mode of transport. Bukit Panjang MRT/LRT allows residents to reach Ten Mile Junction and Jelapang.
