District 23 is known for having plenty of private housing estates surrounded by generous amounts of lush greenery. The main areas of District 23 are Bukit Panjang and Bukit Batok, both of which are far enough from the hustle and bustle of city centre, but with easy access to other areas of Singapore. District 23 has experienced quite a few developments over the years, with each having its own theme in order to attract a certain type of buyer. 

Growing families in particular are attracted to District 23 because of an abundance of highly acclaimed schools. These include Nanyang Primary, Raffles Girls’ Primary, Nanyang Girls’ High, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, National Junior College, Singapore Institute of Management, and Hwa Chong Institution, among others. 

In addition to a Cold Storage Dairy Farm, granite quarries and a number of factories, District 23 also offers residents plenty of amenities and shopping facilities all across the district. These include Lot 1 in Choa Chu Kang, plus the Rail Mall, which has a Cold Storage supermarket, a variety of restaurants and other amenities. 

Nature lovers are automatically drawn to the nature trail that runs between Chu Lin Road and Bukit Gombak Stadium. They also love visiting Hillview Mansion where they can take in an incredible view of the naturally lush green environment. 

Bukit Panjang

Bukit Panjang, which means “long hill,” started out as a small town called Zheng Hua in the 1990s. Since then the area has been developed, but still includes Singapore’s first nature reserve, which has many different species of monkeys, snakes, and plants for conservation purposes. Bukit Panjang also has a number of HDB estates, condominium buildings and landed properties for people interested in living here. The most popular condos can be found at Dairy Farm Estate, Espa, and The Linear.

Bukit Batok

The name Bukit Batok comes from the Malay word “batok,” which means “skull top.” This is apparently what many think the hills in the area look like, thus the name. A little-known fact is that Bukit Batok is where the old Ford factory was and where the Japanese got the British to surrender, which was when Singapore officially entered World War II. 

Bukit Batok is now a robust residential area with a nice variety of recreational facilities and shopping centres. These include the Bukit Batok Country Club for social interactions, Bukit Batok Swimming Complex, and the West Mall. The region also has a number of beautiful parks where residents can enjoy outdoor activities. Bukit Batok residents also have easy access to the Pan-Island Expressway, Upper Bukit Timah, Toh Tuck Road, and the Bukit Batok Roads.
