District 18
Pasir Ris, Tampines
Tampines and Pasir Ris are the two residential areas located within District 18. Both areas specifically cater to families by offering a variety of recreational activities. These include Pasir Ris Park and Downtown East, which are both hotspots for families wanting to spend a fun relaxing weekend together. Families also frequent Fisherman’s Village, Aloha Loyang, and the Pasir Ris Sea Sports Club, all of which provide a wonderful range of activities for all ages. Of special interest are the numerous pet farms in the area that provide even more fun.
Tampines
The Franklin & Jackson Map of 1828 is when Tampines was first officially identified. At that time, the entire area was a rubber plantation surrounded by Tampines trees, which is where the name comes from. Tampines is now a far cry from two centuries ago, with all the urban developments and bustling activity, which make it so appealing to families. Another aspect of Tampines that attracts families is its great schools, which include Temasek Polytechnic and Tampines & Meridian Junior College.
There are also a number of family-friendly shopping areas in and around Tampines, like Courts Outlets and IKEA. Additionally, Tampines is surrounded by a number of community parks where families can enjoy picnicking, sports, and other outdoor activities. These are Tampines Central Park, Tampines Leisure Park, Tampines North Park, and Festival Park, among others.
Pasir Ris
In contract, Pasir Ris was already a small village back in the 1800s, although quite humble in the early years. However, it was also home to quite a few plantation estates. These included Hun Yeang, Loh Lam Estate, Singapore United Plantations and Thai Min Estates.
District 18 is replete with many family-oriented amenities and recreational facilities, which is why it is one of the most desirable residential areas. Families in Pasir Ris have easy access to the facilities at NTUC Downtown East, including the chalets and can also enjoy a getaway at Wild Wild Wet, which one of several theme parks.
As a result, a number of private residential projects and landed properties have been developed in the area. These include the recently completed Executive Condominium (EC) project called Sea Horizon, which is a 99-year leasehold with 495 units located in Pasir Ris.
